We have found that security and maintenance mode plugins such as Solid Security, Wordfence or WP Maintenance Mode have security features that interfere with license key API requests, hence you aren’t able to activate your license.
There are a couple of options.
- Temporarily disable the security plugin.
- Attempt to activate the license.
- If it still won’t activate, log in to the member portal and open Downloads. If the license shows all its activations used, deactivate a site you no longer use and try again.
- If that doesn’t help, contact us from the Support tab in the member portal.
There are some options within security plugins that you can disable that may help avoid blocking the API request (see the article below). With maintenance mode plugins, the best solution is to disable them temporarily in order to activate WP Courseware.

Lastly, another plugin or your theme could be stopping WP Courseware from reaching the license server. To check, follow the steps in Is WP Courseware compatible with all WordPress themes and plugins? to troubleshoot a theme or plugin conflict.
